Pakistan Tours by Car with a Professional Driver

Hire one car and one professional driver for a whole Pakistan tour, from a day around Lahore to two weeks in Hunza and Skardu. Touring calendar as of 4 October 2026

Last checked

Babusar Top and Deosai
Babusar Top reopened on 25 May 2026 and stayed open through an early snowfall on 5 September; its season usually runs to November. Deosai, open since 10 June 2026, should run until around the last week of October.
Murree in snow
Last winter's snow plan ran from 15 December to 25 February with vehicles counted at the entry points. This winter's dates were awaited as of 4 October 2026.
Khunjerab Pass
Officially open all year since December 2024, with visits to the top set by the snow and, in deep winter, by the weather on the day.

Northern Areas tours: Hunza, Skardu, Naran and Swat

Hunza is Karimabad, Attabad Lake and Passu on the Karakoram Highway. Skardu is the long road through Jaglot to the valleys of Shigar and Khaplu. Naran is the Kaghan valley and, while the pass is open, Babusar Top. Swat is Mingora, Malam Jabba and the road up to Kalam.

Murree and the Galyat, an easy run from Islamabad

Murree is about 64 km from Islamabad on the Murree Expressway, close enough for a day out. Nathia Gali and Ayubia in the Galyat, and the chairlift at Patriata, suit a night or two in summer. For a snow trip in winter, plan around the forecast and take a Prado or Land Cruiser on snow days.

City tours in Islamabad, Lahore and Karachi with a driver

A city tour is a car and a professional driver for the day; the driver waits at each stop while you look round. In Islamabad the usual stops are the Faisal Mosque, Daman-e-Koh in the Margalla Hills, the Pakistan Monument and Lok Virsa. In Lahore they are the Badshahi Mosque, Lahore Fort and the old walled city, often finishing at Wagah for the evening flag ceremony. In Karachi they are the Quaid's mausoleum, Frere Hall, Mohatta Palace and the sea at Clifton.

Day trips: Taxila and the Khewra Salt Mine

Taxila is about 35 km from Islamabad, an hour each way, so the museum, Sirkap and the Jaulian monastery fit into one day. The Khewra Salt Mine is about 160 km from Islamabad, two and a half to three hours each way. From Lahore, it is off the M-2 at the Lilla interchange. Pair it with the Katas Raj temples or the lake at Kallar Kahar, and give Rohtas Fort near Jhelum a day of its own. The mine paused visits for the monsoon and had named no reopening date by 4 October 2026, so ask us when you book.

Touring Pakistan from abroad

Most of Pakistan is open to foreign tourists without a no-objection certificate, apart from belts near the borders and the Line of Control. Khyber Pakhtunkhwa asks foreign visitors to register online before heading for Swat or Chitral. Police sometimes assign escorts in places such as Swat, and 10 to 15 passport photocopies keep the checkpoints quick.

Car rental for tours in Pakistan: which car to choose

For city tours, day trips and motorway days, a Toyota Corolla or Honda Civic takes up to four passengers. A family can share the seven-seat Changan Karvaan on city tours, day trips and summer runs to Murree. On high passes, the Skardu road and the last climb to Kalam, we suggest a 4x4. The Toyota Prado seats six passengers and the Land Cruiser seven. Groups of eight or more fit a Toyota Grand Cabin or Toyota Coaster 4C, with the passenger layout and luggage confirmed. Whether a saloon suits a northern trip depends on your route and month, and we confirm the car before you book.

When to travel

City tours and day trips work all year, and Lahore and Karachi are at their most pleasant in the cooler months. The high north is a summer and early-autumn trip, while Babusar Top and Deosai are open. July and August are the monsoon months, so leave a spare day in a summer plan. In winter, the Karakoram Highway stays open for anyone who wants Hunza in the quiet season.

Questions people ask

What is included in a tour quote?

The car and its professional driver for the whole trip, with the driver's meals and his room each night in the town where you stop. The quote itemises fuel and parking and sets out how any local jeep days work. Motorway tolls are extra.

Can we bring a guide on a city tour?

Yes. A guide you book for Lahore Fort, the Faisal Mosque or anywhere else travels with you in the car. Tell us the time you have arranged, and we plan the day around it.

Can the driver meet us at the airport and start the tour straight away?

Yes. Send the flight number and arrival time, and the driver meets you at Islamabad, Lahore or Karachi airport. To head north the same day, tell us where you will spend the first night; after a late landing, that is usually in the city.

Can we start a northern tour from Karachi?

Yes, in two ways. Fly to Islamabad and start the tour at the airport there. Or the driver collects you at home and drives the whole way, which adds about two days at each end. We can quote both side by side.

How do we pay, and what if plans change?

By cash, bank transfer, card or online payment; from abroad, by card or an international or online transfer. Companies can settle on one monthly invoice. Cancellation is free up to 24 hours before pickup.

What if the car breaks down during a tour?

We send another car. That is quick near a city or on the motorway and takes longer deep in the mountains.

Can we ask for prayer stops or a gentler pace?

Yes. Tell us when you enquire: prayer stops, a gentler pace for elderly passengers or extra breaks for small children. We build the day plan around them.

How far ahead should we book a summer tour?

As early as you can: July and August are the crowded months in the north, and Eid holidays fill up fast. For a city tour or day trip, message us whenever you are ready.
