Swat Tour Car Rental: Kalam and Malam Jabba with a Driver

Hire a car with a professional driver for Swat, Malam Jabba and Kalam, starting at your door in Islamabad, Lahore or another city. Travel via the Swat Motorway to Mingora and up the valley. Islamabad to Swat and Kalam by road

From Islamabad, take the M-1 and Swat Motorway to Chakdara: about 200 km and two and a half to three hours. The N-95 continues to Mingora, another 40 km and an hour, then Madyan and Bahrain, about 60 km and up to two hours more. The final 35 km to Kalam is the slowest stretch, twisting beside the river. Islamabad to Kalam totals 320 to 330 km and six to eight hours. Summer traffic is heaviest on Friday and Sunday evenings.

Rent a car from Lahore to Swat

Lahore to Kalam takes nine to eleven driving hours via the M-2, M-1 and Swat Motorway. A first night in Islamabad or Mingora allows the Bahrain-to-Kalam stretch the next morning. The same car and driver collect you in Lahore and return you home. Allow five or six days for the Swat trip.

Which car suits the Kalam road

The Mingora and Malam Jabba roads are sealed. Rougher patches above Madyan and Bahrain make a Prado or Land Cruiser our usual choice for Kalam. A saloon depends on route and month; a Grand Cabin or Coaster needs its Kalam leg confirmed for your trip. Tracks beyond Kalam to Mahodand, Utror and Gabral use local jeeps.

Malam Jabba, Mingora and Saidu Sharif

Malam Jabba is nearly 40 km from Saidu Sharif, turning at Manglor about 12 km out. The sealed road climbs to a ski slope at 2,804 m, with a chairlift for visitors. Nearer Mingora, visit the Swat Museum between Mingora and Saidu Sharif, or the White Palace at Marghazar, about 13 km from Saidu Sharif. Either can fit before the drive to Kalam.

Riverside stops

Plan riverside lunches or walks from the bank in Madyan and Bahrain. Keep children back from the edge and stay off gravel beds after rain. Heavy rain can delay the drive, so keep a spare day and let your driver adjust the route's timing.

Foreign visitors: online registration and escorts

Foreign tourists heading to Swat register with the KP tourism department through its app or kptourism.com, submitting passport, visa and itinerary. Police checkposts may ask about travel plans and assign an escort. Carry 10 to 15 copies of your passport and visa. Mention foreign passport holders and any expected escort when booking so the plan allows for checkpoints.

When to go to Swat and Kalam

Summer is Kalam's main season, with Mahodand's jeep track usually reliable from late May to early October. July to September brings monsoon weather and summer weekends are busiest. December-to-February snow affects the Bahrain-to-Kalam stretch, though Kalam generally stays reachable. Malam Jabba draws winter visitors; for snow trips we suggest a 4x4 and a plan adjusted to road conditions.

Starting from another city

The car and driver can collect you in Karachi, Multan or another city for the full Swat journey. Flying to Islamabad saves the motorway days; meet the car at the airport and continue to Mingora. Ask for either starting option, or compare both.

Trip pricing and policies

Your Swat tour has one quote, with fuel and parking listed. Motorway tolls are extra. Payment choices are cash, bank transfer, card or online payment, plus a monthly invoice for companies. Cancelling is free until 24 hours before pickup. A replacement is sent if the car breaks down; it takes longer above Bahrain.
