Islamabad to Murree by road

The Murree Expressway runs from Islamabad to Murree, about 64 km, in roughly an hour and a half on an ordinary day. Summer weekends, public holidays and snow days are busiest on the last stretch into town, so travel on a weekday or start early.

Rent a car from Lahore to Murree

From Lahore the M-2 takes four to five hours to Islamabad, and the Expressway adds about an hour and a half to Murree. Plan at least one night in Murree or the Galyat, or two if Nathia Gali and the Ayubia walks are on the list. The car and driver collect you at home in Lahore and stay with you throughout.

Murree tour car rental: a day trip or a night in the Galyat

Nathia Gali makes a long, full day from Islamabad. It is 32 to 35 km beyond Murree through Changla Gali, Ayubia and Dunga Gali, one and a half to two hours on the hill road. From Islamabad by way of Murree it is 80 to 90 km. That takes two to two and a half hours on a normal day, and three and a half to five on a peak summer weekend. For the Ayubia walks or Mushkpuri, stay a night in Murree, Bhurban or Nathia Gali.

Patriata, Ayubia and Nathia Gali

Patriata, about 15 km south-east of Murree, has a chairlift from Gulehra Gali and a cable car. At Ayubia, the Pipeline Track runs about 4 km to Dunga Gali, and your driver meets you with the car at the far end. Mushkpuri is a steady 4 km climb from Nathia Gali.

From Karachi: fly to Islamabad or go by road

From Karachi, flying to Islamabad and meeting the car and driver at the airport usually leaves more time in the hills. If you would rather go by road, the car and driver collect you from your door in Karachi. We can price both.

From Islamabad (one day)

Murree in a day from Islamabad: a sample plan, adjusted on the day to the traffic and the weather.

  1. Day 1: Murree, Kashmir Point and Patriata

    Pickup in Islamabad by 8 am, then Mall Road and Kashmir Point in the late morning. Patriata for the chairlift in the afternoon, and back in Islamabad by early evening.

From Islamabad (two days)

Two days in the Galyat from Islamabad.

  1. Day 1: Murree and Patriata

    The Expressway to Murree, Mall Road for lunch, and Patriata in the afternoon. Night in Murree or Bhurban.

  2. Day 2: Ayubia, the Pipeline Track and Nathia Gali

    Through Changla Gali to Ayubia, then the Pipeline Track on foot to Dunga Gali and on to Nathia Gali. An afternoon walk towards Mushkpuri, then home through Abbottabad and the Hazara Motorway.

From Lahore

Three days from Lahore.

  1. Day 1: Lahore to Murree

    Up the M-2 to Islamabad and the Expressway to Murree, with the evening on Mall Road.

  2. Day 2: Patriata and the Galyat

    Patriata in the morning, then the Galyat road through Changla Gali, Ayubia and Dunga Gali to Nathia Gali for the night.

  3. Day 3: Nathia Gali to Lahore

    Down to Abbottabad, then the Hazara Motorway and the M-2 home to Lahore.

Questions people ask

Do we need a 4x4 for Murree in the snow?

When snow is forecast, we usually suggest a Toyota Prado or Toyota Land Cruiser. Plan an early start and a daylight return, ideally on a weekday, and we go over the road conditions with you when you book.

Where does the driver park in Murree?

In a designated parking area. You walk the last part to Mall Road while the driver waits with the car, ready to collect you when you call.

Can we come back through Abbottabad?

Yes, and on busy summer weekends it is often quicker. From Nathia Gali it is about 34 km down to Abbottabad, around an hour, then the Hazara Motorway to Islamabad. The whole return is 105 to 115 km, two and a half to three and a half hours.

Can a school or college group book a Coaster for Murree?

Yes. The Toyota Coaster 4C is currently listed with 22 seats. For 40 or more, ask about the Yutong Bus or Hino Bus, and we plan the route and coach parking with you.

Is the driver's food and stay included?

Yes. His meals are included on a day trip, and his room too if you stay the night, wherever you sleep.

How is a Murree trip priced?

Per trip: one figure covers the car and the driver, for a day trip or a night away. Fuel and parking are listed on the quote. Motorway tolls are extra.

How can we pay?

Cash, bank transfer, card or online payment all work, and companies sending staff up to Murree can be invoiced monthly.

What if our plans change, or the car has a fault?

Cancelling costs nothing up to 24 hours before pickup. If the car breaks down in the hills, we send a replacement.
